Editorial: IGAD.. The Other Side of the Coin

It always jumps to the minds of many of Africans, when the IGAD word comes within a title of a news article, the conflicts and disasters in the region without any recalling the other noble activities which the organization is leading.

The central strategic role of IGAD is to promote regional cooperation and integration among its member states with aim of improving the welfare of all citizens.
The objectives of IGAD include, but not limited to:
* Agriculture and Environment
* Economic cooperation and regional integration
* Health and Social Development
* Peace and Security

Within its endeavours to promote media – which is considered the Fourth Estate – IGAD Media Awards was initiated as a platform dedicated to celebrating excellence and media production in the Horn of Africa.

On October 23, IGAD Set to Host 2nd In Annual IGAD Media Awards 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya, Highlighting Peace and Security, where the Organization will celebrate outstanding journalism that has made a significant impact across the IGAD region.
This prestigious event recognises journalists for their dedication to highlighting key issues such as peace-building, climate resilience, and social development. With three times more entries than last year, the competition is tougher than ever.

We believe that the event will represent a golden opportunity for the journalists in the region to enter into a kind of integrarion in order to exchange news articles, reports or any other press coverages to be published in all available media outlets a matter that will enrich the contents of English platforms in the region.
