Director General of the IOM visits Sudan

Minister of Interior, Major General Police (Rtd.) Khalil Pasha Sayreen, met in his office today with the Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Amy Pope, in the presence of the the IOM Regional Director, Mohamed Refaat, the Director of the Organization’s Office in Sudan, and Dr. Mohamed Yassin Al-Tahami, the Commissioner of Refugees, who is responsible for managing the commission.

Sayreen affirmed that Pope’s visit to the country and the meeting came within the framework of assessing the humanitarian situation in Sudan as a result of the war waged by the rebel militia, especially the internal displacement of citizens from the states affected by the war to the safe states, which is considered the largest humanitarian crisis for internal displacement. He said that the visit aims at aassessing the situation on the ground and to provide the required humanitarian assistance.
He praised the great role that the organization has continued to play in providing support to Sudan in the areas of migration, displacement and refugees.

The Minister confirmed his ministry’s commitment to facilitating and simplifying all requirements that determine the tasks and performance of the organization in the country.
