Al-Burhan meets AUPSC delegation
Head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, 1st. Lieutenant General Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan, met today in Port Sudan with the delegation of the African Peace and Security Council, which is currently visiting the country, headed by Ambassador Mohamed Gad, Egypt’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Permanent Representative to the African Union and the rotating Chairman of the Peace and Security Council for the month of October.
Al-Burhan welcomed the delegation’s visit to Sudan.
He said, “We still see that the African Union’s description of what happened on October 25 as a coup is inaccurate and contradicts the facts.
He stressed that what Sudan is exposed to represents a new colonialism, adding that the African Union’s disregard for the crisis that the Sudanese people are experiencing is due to its lack of knowledge of the reality of this crisis.
He indicated that the country is occupied by a rebel militia with the participation of foreign mercenaries and the assistance of countries that everyone knows.
He pointed to the terrorist militia’s attack on safe cities, its violation of citizens’ privacy, its looting of their property, and its rape of women, indicating that the whole world witnessed this and did not move a finger.
Al-Burhan stressed his rejection of the control of Sudan by foreign parties that use the militia in their war against the country.
He said that there is a political force that wants to return to power by any means before the citizens return to their homes and areas occupied by the rebel militia.
Ambassador Mohamed Gad, head of the delegation, said in a press statement that this is the first visit of the Peace and Security Council to Sudan in several years, indicating that Egypt has been keen since the beginning of its presidency of the Council last April to make this visit.
He said that the explanations provided by the Head of the Sovereignty Council to the delegation of the African Peace and Security Council helped in understanding the dimensions of the Sudanese crisis, indicating that the delegation affirmed its support for brotherly Sudan until peace is achieved in the country. He added that Egypt is always keen on the necessity for Sudan to emerge from this crisis safely.
He added that the meeting discussed the necessity of creating the necessary environment for Sudan to restore its membership in the African Union.
He added, “Sudan cannot go through such a crisis and have its membership in the African Union frozen.”
Ambassador Mohamed Gad stressed that the African Peace and Security Council will seek to establish peace in Sudan, cease fire, and support facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Sudanese people.
For his part, Ambassador Al-Zain Ibrahim Hussein, Sudan’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, said in a press statement that the visit of the African Peace and Security Council is important as it is the first visit since 2015, and it indicates a new positive connection between the African Union and Sudan after its membership was suspended on October 26, 2021, following the corrective measures to dissolve the partnership with the civilian component.
He indicated that the Council’s delegation listened to a detailed explanation from the Head of the Sovereignty Council on various military, security, political and humanitarian files, noting that the delegation held important meetings with a number of state officials, which provided an opportunity to learn about the overall situation in Sudan and enabled the delegation to gain information about the reality of the crisis.
Ambassador Al-Zain explained that the Arab Republic of Egypt chairs the current session of the African Peace and Security Council, indicating that the delegation included the Commissioner for Peace, Security and Political Affairs and the African Union Delegate to Sudan, Ambassador Mohamed Belaish, indicating that this visit will constitute a roadmap for Sudan’s re-association with the African Union.
