Sudan and Rwanda expand cooperation in higher education and scientific research

Within the framework of the efforts of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to continue studies in Sudanese higher education institutions inside and outside the country, and to evaluate the academic conditions of Sudanese students studying in abroad universities , and according to the directives of Professor Mohamed Hassan Dahab, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the approval of the Council of Ministers, a delegation from the Ministry led by Professor Mohamed Ahmed Al-Nour paid an official visit to the State of Rwanda, during which he met with Professor Tawgarizo Gaspar, Rwandan Minister of Education, in the presence of Dr. Khaled Musa, Sudan’s Ambassador to Rwanda, a representative of the Rwandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and directors of departments of the Rwandan Ministry of Education.
The Rwandan Minister of Education welcomed the delegation, indicating that Rwanda has distinguished infrastructure for higher education, including government universities, technical universities, and private universities, and there is a continuous increase in international universities, expressing his welcome to Sudanese students in Rwanda.
For his part, Professor Abu Al-Nour, head of the delegation, conveyed the greetings of Professor Mohamed Hassan Dahab to the Rwandan Minister of Education, extending his thanks and appreciation to his country for hosting the University of Medical Sciences and Technology and facilitating the procedures for establishing a branch for it in Rwanda, and welcoming Sudanese students and facilitating their immigration procedures.
Professor Abu Al-Nour stated that the delegation attended to evaluate the university branch to ensure that it meets the requirements of the Sudanese Ministry of Higher Education and the requirements of the Rwandan side, indicating that there is an opportunity to sign a Memorandum of Understanding to expand cooperation between the Rwandan Ministry of Education and the Sudanese Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
For his part, Eng. Dr. Babiker Hussein Ahmed, a member of the delegation, thanked the Rwandan side for facilitating the participation of the University of Medical Sciences and Technology in the Rwandan Scientific Research and Education Network (Ruwident) and making available the resources of the educational and research network to the university, pointing out that the Sudanese Scientific Research and Education Network (SudRN) and the Ruwident Network are members of the Scientific Research and Education Network in the East and Southern Africa Region (Ubuntent Alliance) and that cooperation between the two networks is an extension of that relationship, and that there is an opportunity to expand cooperation between SudRN and Ruwident through the .emorandum of Understanding to include cooperation in establishing a cloud for backing up data and systems of the institutions of the two parties to increase the degree of preservation and ensure that they are not lost in cases of natural disasters and wars.
Dr. Khaled Musa, the Sudanese Ambassador to Rwanda, handed the Rwandan Minister a copy of the Memorandum of Understanding for the purpose of studying it in preparation for signing it between the two ministers, pointing out that the number of Sudanese students is constantly increasing, which prompted the embassy to request more facilitation in granting residencies for the parents of students and groups that come to Rwanda for long- and short-term training purposes, especially in the medical fields.
In conclusion, the Rwandan Minister of Education thanked the delegation of the Sudanese Ministry of Higher Education for taking the first step in the Memorandum of Understanding to expand the level of cooperation between the two countries in the field of higher education and scientific research, and promised to study the aspects that took place in the meeting with the relevant authorities in Rwanda.
