Head of the TSC meets Director General of WHO

Head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, 1st. Lieutenant-General Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan met today, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tadros Adhanum who was accompanied by Dr. Hanan Hassan Balkhi, Director-General of the World Health Organization in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, in the presence of the Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hussein Al-Amin.
The Minister of Health said in a press statement that the visit of the Director-General of the World Health Organization to Sudan was full of programs, as he visited a number of health institutions, shelter centers and the Humanitarian Aid Commission, and interviewed a number of state officials, focused on the commitment of the World Health Organization to continue. Its work providing support to health institutions in Sudan, and open the border crossings with neighboring countries to facilitate the access of humanitarian aid to the war-affected areas
He indicated that the director of the organization promised to increase the support allocated to Sudan.

For his part, Dr. Tadros said that the meeting with the Head of the Sovereignty Council was fruitful and constructive. He briefed him on the results of his two-day visit to Sudan, in which he reviewed the needs of the Sudanese health sector and added that he thanked the Head of the Sovereignty Council for the cooperation of the Government of Sudan with international organizations, by agreeing to open humanitarian corridors to facilitate the arrival of aid convoys to those who deserve it.
Adhanom said that 1st. Lieutenant-General Al-Burhan affirmed Sudan’s commitment to facilitate the work of the World Health Organization so that it plays its role in supporting the health sector in the country.
He stressed the government’s readiness to use Meroe Airport and some other airports by organizations to help deliver what is required to citizens, noting that Meroe is the closest way to deliver aid to the Darfur regions.

Meanwhile, Dr. Hanan Hassan Balkhi, Director of the World Health Organization in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, affirmed that the organization will work in coordination with the Regional Office for the Rehabilitation of some hospitals in Sudan to provide material and technical support for health institutions that were damaged by the war.
She expressed hopes that the humanitarian needs of the people affected by the conflict in Sudan should be quickly responded to.
