Some Important Cities of Sudan

The Last Geography Lesson in the 6th Grade of Sudan Basic Level presents useful and simple information about significant towns of the country as follows:

Khartoum

Khartoum is the national capital of Sudan and composed of three towns: Khartoum, Khartoum Bahri and Omdurman The capital city lies at the confluence of Blue and White Nile rivers and its three towns are connected with many bridges: Blue Nile, Omdurman, Halfaya, Soba and Kobar. It is a meeting point for areas of Sudan and a big political, financial and commercial centre.

Wad Madani

Wad medani is located on the Blue Nile river in the South of Khartoum.It is the capital of central region of Sudan and the headquarters of the Al Geizira Agricultural Project and its other affiliated administrative bodies, as well as the Corporation of Agricultural Research, University of Gezira and Tannery.

PortSudan

Port Sudan is situated on the coast of Red sea and it is the first sea port of Sudan through which pass the exports and imports of country. Within the area, there are are earth salt mining, oil refinery and food processing industries.

AL Obied

Al Obied is the capital of Kurdofan and the oldest trade city in Sudan. It is still a trade centre and an important market for crops & livestock and it is considered the biggest bourse for Gum Arabic market in the world.

Atbara

It is situated at the confluence of Atbara river in the White Nile River state. It is linked with town of Al Dammar with a bridge in the south and with the bridge of Om Al tayoor village in the west.
Prevoiusly, it was chosen as the headquarter of the presidency of Sudan Railway for its distniguished location, the lagest workshop for locomotives and maintenance of Railway carriages. It is an important industrial centre for manufacturing cement. It is a meeting point of main roads that connect it with all regions of Sudan and the neighouring republic of Egypt.

Nyala

Nyala is situated on the bank of Khor Nyala(Albuhair) in the west of Sudan. It is characterized by intersections of routes that link from the east to the west, North to the South. Its economy depends on the sector of agriculture . one of its agricultural products: Sudanese ground nuts, Kerkedi(Hebiscus) millet, Gum Arabic. It is a also a pioneering trade centre where there is a big market for crops, a tourist centre as it includes many tourism areas such as Bairlay valley orchards, Dinder and Radoum natural reserves.

Kosti

Kosti is located in the west of Rabak town on the White Nile river in the middle of an important grazing and cultivation zone. It is situated near to the sugar factories of Kenanana and Assalaya which has qualified it to be an important commercial and industrial centre.
