Narcissistic Acts: Old is Gold, and Gold is Lost!

By: Alaa Babiker

It is very interesting how people receive different news every now and then. Some are true, some are just for the higher numbers of online “Clicks”! During the past 35 years, our beloved country Sudan has been going through different phases of news production, editorials, and actions to cover and reflect the events happening all around the country.

The history of our country is as old as thousands of years ago. The news of our ancients have not been covered fully, but the fact that we are one of the oldest civilizations in Africa is fascinating specially with the presences of all the Mummified bodies at our National Museum that no one knows what has happened to them after the bombing near the museum area! These Mummies tell great stories about our old kings and queens, news stories that could be made in films and series.

They say Old is Gold. It is actually. It reflects the authenticity of nations, it shows the greatness of one population, and it clarifies through the inherited stories how the grand generations were mastering life and existence. But our old was stolen and our gold was lost! Year after year, we have forgotten what the old generation did; their sacrifices, their morals, their positive thinking and positive perspective of life, their great leadership and models in life, their strength and political positions in the world, our old is simply great, and it is a gold.

Since recent years, starting from our Independence onwards, facts were getting mixed with illusions, moral have been gradually lost, and things got simply different, people seem to be different in all aspects. As a result our gold is lost, literally and metaphorically!

The only thing we have now is ourselves as Sudanese, it is the only thing that matters the most; our souls, let’s keep them safe and pray that we witness more stability and more peace inside our country. And may Allah grant wisdom and positive thinking upon our leaders to end this war.
