GIS issues a statement summoning journalist Abdel Majid Abdel Hamid

The General Intelligence Service (GIS）appreciated the great role that the media sector and its institutions continued to play in a positive manner in various fields, and affirmed its readiness to help journalists obtain the correct information.

A statement issued by the information department of GIS against the backdrop of the summoning of journalist Abdel Majid Abdel Hamid, confirmed that the journalistic and media community remains appreciated and respected by the leadership of the GIS

The statement explained that journalist Abdel Majid Abdel Hamid published incorrect news at different times, as it was claimed that the GIS held meetings with the CIA in a regional country, which is completely untrue.
He also published news claiming that the Director of GIS, Lieutenant General Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal, held a closed meeting with the Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister during his recent visit to the country, which is also untrue.

The statement affirmed that GIS management asked Abdul Majid in a direct contact to deny the news, and gave him sufficient time to do so, but he did not do so.

The statement went on: Previously, Abdul Majid published news that was not true, in which he indicated that the Zakat Bureau employee, Muhammad Ezzat, the brother of the rebel Youssef Ezzat, is still receiving his salary and allowances.
He published another news in which he claimed that a delegation led by Lieutenant General Ibrahim Suleiman and Dr. Suleiman Saleh Fedail would meet with the President of the Sovereignty Council to present an initiative to negotiate with the militia

Based on the aforementioned backgrounds, the statement said that the matter required summoning journalist Abdul Majid and transferring him to the competent prosecution to take legal measures.

The statement stressed that the GIS will not be lenient towards anyone who broadcasts false news that affects national security.
