Sudan Doctors Network: The RSF occupies Hajar al-Asal Hospital, turns it into military barracks, and expels the medical staff.
The Sudanese Doctors Network regrets the deteriorating situation of health care in Hajar al-Asal area, south of River Nile state, following the occupation of the region’s only hospital by the Rapid Support Forces. The RSF converted the hospital into military barracks, looted the hospital’s only ambulance, expelled the medical staff, evicted the residents of the doctors’ residential quarters, and repurposed it for military use.
The continued occupation of health facilities by the Rapid Support Forces and their utilization for military purposes both demonstrate the RSF’s intent to exacerbate the suffering of innocent civilians and a deliberate attempt to push the residents of this area into paralyzing anguish, with complete disregard for international humanitarian laws protecting civilian institutions and medical facilities.
The Sudanese Doctors Network condemns this criminal behavior by the RSF, calls for adherence to international humanitarian law, and urges the sparing of medical facilities and civilian areas from hostilities which should never be resorted to for military purposes.
