Orbits: IGAD Summit, Will It Pay Off

Head of the Traditional Sovereignty Council, 1st. Gen. Abdul Fatah Al-Burhan headed today to Djibouti to participate in the IGAD’s 41st extraordinary summit.
The summit which will kick-off today will be attended by the US Special Envoy to the Horn of Africa to affirm Washington’s support to regional and international efforts in bringing an end to the conflict in Sudan and to boost the Democratic transformation.
Also the UNSG Special Envoy to Sudan and the EU envoy to the Horn of Africa will attend the summit which will be participated by the leaders of Sudan, Djbouti, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia.
The summit will concentrate on supporting Jeddah Forum and the establishment of expanded international mechanism to intigrate Jeddah Forum vision with IGAD proposals.
The question that poses itself is will IGAD summit pay off within the present lack of confidence between the SAF and the RSF?
It goes without saying that the summit represents a added value to Jeddah Forum and a positive political move which might lead to a unified vision to reach the aspired polital solution and just peace.
Let us hope that the summit manages to, at least, cessation of hostilities and ceasefire to pave the way for striking a sustainable peace agreement.
