Al-Mokabraby: A pioneer of Technology in Gedaref

Abdul-Aziz Ali Omer

If you are tired , bored or worried, why don’t you come to AL-Mokabraby net-café to alleviate your boredom, anxiety and exhaustion. When it is busy you can wait your turn and enjoy a drink. Jamila at the entrance gate serves the best coffee. Also, Osman besides her has a palatable tea and on either side, there are colored stools and a single iron bench to receive their customers. Al-mokraby opens early as soon as Saif Salam turns up and his clients assist in arranging the stack of black and blue chairs around 16 computers . Idris is another employee who sometimes fumigates the place and takes the burning incense away if he observes that someone is irritated by the dense smoke of frankincense. Ibrahim, a young cleaning boy can be seen mopping the floor and slipping on it to wipe any traces of dust. Al-Mokraby down stairs has another branch of it managed by Abdul-Aziz. One of the attractions is that Abdul-Aziz is an intellectual and has the ability to discuss issues of art and culture. He is kind, hospitable and welcoming. His customers are pharmacists, lawyers, students and general public who want their documents being printed accurately, beautifully and without delay. Al-Mokabraby lies inside a huge towering building known as ” Amaarat Al-badawi” where it seems a small wheel inside a big machine, but it has never stopped working for more than 20 years. It’s a vibrant technology hub in Gedaref city. Its founder is the ambitious engineer Fath Al-Rahman, now an expatriate in Saudi Arabia. His successor is his brother AlI. Ali is well-dressed, serious and runs Al-Mokraby multi-purposes technology shop with devotion, patience and excellence. He doesn’t allow watching pornography websites” I want to eat ” Halal” ” he says implying that earning profits from watching obscenities is indecent and contravene the Sharia Islamic law and the society ethics. He also doesn’t permit students to get into his respective Internet café with their uniforms during school time to discourage truancy. Inside Omer Albdawi high building, Al-mokraby had an exit on the back side that leads to children clinic, but now it’s separated by a brick wall. Al-Mokraby suffered from the noise of vagabonds. Now, it is calm and the only audible thing is the infectious laughter of the modernity poet Mosab Al-Ramady. He laughs for no apparent reasons. That makes people think of him as crazy, but he isn’t a demented person. He is simply preoccupied by some complex philosophical issues which makes look abnormal. Inside Al-mokraby, Al-Ramdy is the voice of a mysterious joy and an insane optimism. The operator shouts ” Mosab! Your time is over!” and Mosab leaves with some hesitation the computer to be at someone’s disposal. While the time runs out, the fantasy of a poet remain un-exhausted and the desire of Internet addicts insatiable and this common factor encourages one to come back to Al-Mokabraby.
