Leaving home to escape The War in Sudan

By: Zeina Adil Algadi
Saturday 15th of April might not be a memorable day for everyone but it is a day Sudanese people everywhere will never forget, the day our lives changed, it was the day a war broke out in our home.
Chaos was everywhere, no where was safe even inside our own homes. The sounds of gunshots and explosions have become a constant background noise in my mind. It’s as if the sounds have etched themselves into my memory, and I cannot escape them. The windows rattling in the house, vibrating with each explosion, only served to amplify the sense of fear and danger that I felt every day.
We had no choice but to leave our home, and with it, everything we knew and loved. We left everything we owned behind and fled with just the clothes on our backs. It was a heartbreaking moment as we said goodbye to our homeland, leaving behind everything we cherished.
The journey to Egypt was treacherous, and we were often hungry, thirsty, and exhausted. But we made it, and for that I am especially grateful.
The pain of leaving Sudan is indescribable. It is like losing a part of oneself. Our country is bleeding, and we are all suffering. But despite the challenges, I am hopeful for the future and for the opportunity to contribute to the rebuilding of our nation.
It’s heartbreaking to see my country bleeding, with so many lives lost and families torn apart But, I also know the strength and resilience of my people. We will continue to fight for a better future, for ourselves and for future generations. There is hope for Sudans future.
