Re-arrest of Head of Consumer Protection Society

On Tuesday, concerned authorities re-arrested the head of Consumer Protection Society, Yassir Mirghani, in a response to a lawsuit filed at the corruption department. He was asked to pay a financial guarantee of 265,000 Euros, which was grant offered to the association by the European Union.

The Public Prosecution previously arrested Yassir Mirghani in December 2022, under Article 177 of breach of trust, and was subjected to investigation. Yassir Mirghani said at the time that he was interrogated about grant funds provided by the European Union to the society in 2012. The investigation proved that the society had a certificate from the European Union confirming the grant’s aspects of disbursement

As an expert and diplomat in volunteer work, Dr. Nasraldin Shulgami  commenteded to The Citizen about this incident saying: (Accusing Dr. Yassir Mirghani of corruption regarding a project implemented by the Consumer Protection Society ‘in cooperation’ with the European Union undermines the credibility and professionalism of the European Union in scrutinizing its projects, given that the project dates back to more than ten years.
