War Child Canada organizes peace conference in W. Darfur
The Canadian War Child Organization in West Darfur organized today a peace conference in the Qalala area of Karenik locality, with the participation of the locality community components, which includes the leaders of the native administration, youth, women, the crisis management and development initiative in the locality, and a group of peace ambassadors, disaster response projects supported by the United Nations Development Program in support of community peace efforts and the promotion of peace in the region.
the executive director of Karenik locality, Nasser Al-Zain Hassan, representative of the state government, indicated that the conference is part of a number of workshops held during the past days in the areas of (Murayat, Umm Tajuk, Rosi and Targana), announcing the state’s government’s readiness to implement the recommendations on the ground in order to establish the values of tolerance and brotherhood among societies, calling for maintaining the stability prevailed in the region and renunciation of tribalism and regionalism.
He asserted that the government will work without hesitation to combat negative phenomena and hold the unruly accountable, announcing a plan to hold a conference to evaluate the agricultural season of the past year and seek solutions to the problems that faced the farmers in the previous stage and come up with recommendations that contribute to deaingl with the challenges.
The Sultan of Dar Masalit, Sultan Saad Abd al-Rahman Bahr al-Din, who attended the conference, praised the leaders of the native administration and other societal components for their active participation in the conference, noting that would strengthen factors of community peace and peaceful coexistence through collaboration and solidarity, support endeavors to benefit from the energies of youth, increase local and national production and advance education and health projects.
He indicated in his address to the conference that the presented peace paper dealt with the indicators of the conflict, its causes, and the development of solutions and recommendations that support the region stabilization process.
The representative of the Director of the War Child Canada Organization in W. Darfur state, Ibrahim Abdel-Rahman Ahmed, noted that the conference follows a consultative conferences on bases’ level in local communities, in coordination with the Center for Peace Studies at the University of El Geneina, and included villages of, al-Furqan and residential neighborhoods in the locality of Karenik.
The representative of the Secretary-General of the state’s Supreme Peace Council, Ahmed Sharif, revealed an integrated plan for the council in support of peace and rejecting hate speech through interactive projects and programs that include cultural and sports activities, in addition to activating the reconciliation and early warning committees in coordination with the security committees in the localities, as well as a plan to demarcate paths and intersections to reduce intensity of friction between farmers and herders in the autumn season.
The mayor of Qalala area, Ibrahim Abd al-Nabi Dahloub, called for the necessity of empowering the native administration to support and promote stability.
Dr. Tariq Ali Adam from the Center for Peace Studies at University of Zalingei presented a paper on community peace and peaceful coexistence from a scientific and practical perspective.
Meanwhile, the conferees came out with recommendations, the most important of which is the importance of upholding the values of tolerance and combating violence, especially against women and children, mutual support, rejecting hate speech, opening tracks, and working to integrate the forces of the parties to the peace process and rapid support into the armed forces.
