SSMO Board of Directors Hails the performance of staff, endorses amendments in legislations

The Board of the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO meeting  chaired by Prof. Kamal Al-Tayeb valued high the efforts exerted by the workers of the organization despite the challenges and conditions facing the country.

For her part, the Director General of the SSMO, Ms. Rahba Saeed Abdallah, displayed the general performance report for the year 2022, pointing out the percentage of general performance reached 86% a matter that reflects the Perseverance of the staff members and the support and the coordination with partners.

She revealed an amendment in the laws of specifications, metrology, measurement and calibration to keep pace with the variables and requirements for joining the World Trade Organization and COMESA, explaining that the Department of Standards issued (319) Sudanese standards and (3) technical rules, and issued (7998) final conformity certificates for strategic commodities (such as sugar, wheat and fertilizers) and (562) initial conformity certificates (verification of conformity before import by the supplier).

Ms. Rahba said that Memorandums of Understanding have been signed and activated with the Turkish Standards Institute, the Saudi Private Laboratories Company, the American Testing Association, the Indian Standards Bureau and the National Bureau of Standards of South Sudan in order to exchange experiences, coordinate views, approve technical certificates and train cadres.

She called for the re-formation of the Codex Alimentarius Committee and the importance of participation in international organizations to achieve gains for Sudan.

The meeting emphasized the importance of the SSMO and its great role in society, supporting the economy and protecting consumers, calling for the specification certificate to be the technical reference for the entry of goods into the country and the application of the single window system, and calling on the Ministry of Finance to allocate technical and financial supports to modernize and develop technical laboratories and qualify the workforce.

The meeting also commended the Sudanese Customs Authority for the fruitful cooperation between the two bodies.
