India – Sudan Educational partnership

The Republic of Indian Embassy in Sudan, organized ITEC day to mark 59 years since the inauguration of The Indian Technical Economic Corporation (ITEC) in 1964, at Kanon hotel, Khartoum. The event was attended by around 120 guests which included, the Vice Chancellor of Sudan University, Al Nileen University, the Vice Chancellor and Deputy of Al Zaiem Alazhari University, several dignitaries, Defense personnel, ITEC alumni and media representative.
The Indian ambassador to Sudan Mr. B.S Mubarak highlighted the significance of the ITEC program for capacity building of scholars from partner countries including Sudan and gave a presentation on the ITEC program. He mentioned the cultural and people-to-people contact generated between the two countries through ITEC Courses and other capacity-building measures offered to Sudanese nationals. He conveyed that Sudan is the largest recipient of ITEC scholarships in the region.

ICCR Scholar Prof. Eisa Bashier M. Tayeb, Vice Chancellor, Sudan University acknowledged the role played by India in promoting higher education in Sudan and narrated his experience of completing of Post-Graduation and Doctoral studies in India. ICCR Scholar Deputy Vice Chancellor of Alzaiem Alazhari University, Dr. Ashraf Izzeldin Abdalla spoke about the progress achieved in India in various fields and how Sudan can benefit from partnering with India. Several speakers acknowledged India’s contributions to capacity building which in turn has strengthened the bonds between India and Sudan. Some of the ITEC beneficiaries also shared their experiences of their visit to India. Mr Siddiq Bushra Al Fadil, Director, of External Relations, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research appreciated the role of the Government of India in providing scholarships to Sudanese nationals.
Last October 2022, A producer and Radio host at Blabi Ms. Marwa Eltayeb Mohamed studied for the “Specialized Course On Becoming A Strategic Thinker – The Essential of Thinking Strategically And Enhancing Your Impact ” at Amity University, Noida, India under (the ITEC) Program of the Government of India.
She praised the role of the Republic of India toward Sudan not only in the education field, but she also shared her experience through the study trip to India and encouraged Sudanese Students to apply for the course especially women. ITEC, India’s most successful partnership cooperation program , provides technical assistance, and training/capacity-building opportunities to around 160 partner countries including Sudan in a range of fields such as IT, banking, administration, audit, and scientific to both civil and defense personnel.
ITEC was launched on 15 September 1964; ITEC is a demand-driven program with a primary focus on capacity building needs of developing countries across the globe.
Nowadays, India offers 14,000 scholarships every year. The government of India bears all the expenses related to international airfare, boarding and lodging in respect of the selected candidates. Under the program, India offers training courses for both civilian and defense personnel.
