Diplomatic sources said a US official is expected to arrive at Khartoum to advance the political process.

A senior diplomat revealed to Sudan Tribune that US and British pressure is on the parties to the political process to reach a final agreement as soon as possible, while a US official is expected to arrive at Khartoum within days to advance political understandings.
A senior U.S. official told a closely linked Arab country he visited a few weeks ago that Washington rejected tensions between the head of the sovereign council and his deputy.
The diplomat said that officials of the Gulf capital conveyed the US official’s message to Burhan and Hemedti during separate meetings and were also explicitly notified of Washington’s rejection of the stalemate accompanying the political process and the possibility of imposing sanctions on its obstructionists.
Meanwhile, a member of the Central Council for Freedom and Change, Mohammed Al-Sadiq, said the international pressure comes in the context of obliging the two main forces – the army and the Rapid Support – to agree on a matrix for security and military reform and a clear plan for a specific period of time that can achieve military reform in Sudan, in addition to besieging any activity of the Russian Wagner forces in Sudan or elsewhere.
He said that it was international and regional pressures that pushed the coup authority to bow to the storm and admit its failure and decide to leave the political process and return to the barracks.
Al-Maqli pointed out that it is imperative for the signatories of the framework agreement to compete against the clock to end the political processes and sign a final agreement leading to the formation of a credible civilian government.
He stated that the United States may have to use the stick policy and enforce its threat stipulated in the Democratic Transition, Accountability and Fiscal Transparency Act of 2020 issued by the US Congress, which explicitly provides for individual sanctions against anyone who obstructs the return to the path of democratic transition and civil state in Sudan.
