Dhieu Mathok: Implementation of Juba Agreement Requires Healthy Atmosphere

Secretary of South Sudan mediation team in Sudanese peace talks in Juba, Dhieu Mathok, stressed that implementation of the Juba Agreement for Peace in Sudan needs a healthy and conflict-free atmosphere in order to contribute to a democratic transition in Sudan, pointing to the spread of weapons in the hands of people.

He warned of consequences of not collecting weapons, saying weapons must enter the stores in order to practicing democracy smoothly.

In a statement to SUNA on the sidelines of the workshop to explain the updated matrix of the Juba Agreement for Peace in Sudan, organized by the National Peace Commission, Mathok pointed that implementation of the peace agreement faces major challenges, including lack of national consensus among the Sudanese themselves, financial challenges and divisions within the armed struggle movements that signed the peace agreement.

He added that the Juba workshop came out with an updated matrix after discussing the challenges that hindered the implementation of the peace agreement, adding that a new vision was developed to help in accelerating the pace of implementation of the agreement.

Mathok, stated that the Khartoum workshop during discussions came out with specific recommendations such as those related to sovereign and administrative decisions.

He revealed that Abdulaziz Al-Helou and Abdul- Wahid are in Juba awaiting formation of the civilian government and then to enter into dialogue.
