WFP Delegation including foreign investors Visits Gezira Scheme

A delegation from the World Food Programme (WFP), including number of American, European and UAE investors,  led by the executive director, David  Beasley has arrived in Gezira Scheme accompanied by Acting Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources, Daw Al-Bait Mohamed Abdul Rahman, Governor of Gezira Scheme, Eng. Omer Mohamed Marzouq , Director of Agricultural Administration , Eng. Ibrahim Mustafa and other official in the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources.

The delegation toured several areas in the Scheme including Darwish and Al-Kamar offices in the central department.

The visiting delegation was briefed on the cultivation process of wheat and cotton crops, besides the challenges facing the Scheme and the available investment potentials.

For his part, WFP executive director said that the visit aims at reviewing the investment potentials in Gezira Scheme, pointing out that Sudan with his arable lands is qualified to become world food basket.

Governor of Gezira Scheme welcomed the visiting delegation, pointing to the areas of investment available in the project in light of the good infrastructure enjoyed the huge potential that can be utilized  to achieve food security for Sudan and the whole world.
