The other dimension: mining chaos annihilating our present and future..!

Musaab Brier

Five years ago, Radio Dabanga published news that doctors and activists in Tadamon locality in South Kordofan state revealed (11) cases of birth of deformed children with other abortions in women in the locality.

Doctors suggested there were likely cases of the proliferation of cyanide and mercury tailings heavily used in gold mining operations.

At the time, Dr. Al-Jili Hammouda, a member of the Legal Commission for Environmental Protection, revealed to Radio Dabanga that more than (10) cases of birth of malformed fetuses were detected in the areas of (Reba, Al-Rosairis, and Awlad Al-Rasheed) around the Tartar area in Al-Tadamon locality.

Hammouda pointed to the birth of a child without a head and another boy with a deformed back and a spot on his face last week.

He announced the death of about (50) heads of goats in November last year, explaining that the cases appeared about a year ago with the entry of Laha and Rosiris companies to mine gold with cyanide, which is harmful to humans, animals, and the environment.

Today, Morning News published a special investigation on a mining company that disposed of cyanide in the open in the sequins area, reporting deaths of animals, mutilated children, and abortions due to cyanide use in the Tartar area across South Kordofan.

Another dimension:

How we would comment on these disasters that have become associated with every stone we turn, and the point that no two individuals would argue is that these disasters are posing a threat to our present and future by polluting our environment and killing our children.

Unfortunately, our institutions concerned seem to be in a deep sleep indifferent to anything. The question is where are the Supreme Council for the Federal Environment and its state branches, an organization for Standardization and Metrology and its branches in the states, the Federal Ministry of Health and its branches in the states, the state governments, localities from all that?

In addition the armies, the Ministry of Minerals, and the Sudanese Mining Company? Don’t they all have a role in stopping this?!

Further dimensions:

But where are our ousted leaders and the new officials, where are their promises for peace, blessings, and free education, and that dollar would be flying over the streets?!

Now, gentlemen, we are dreaming of the basic human rights that we used to lead a luxurious life that we are not.

History will not forgive us if we see people lose their lives while rivals are consumed in their absurd and radical battles.

May Allah have mercy on all of us!
