Sudan and IGAD Executive Secretary Discusses Road Map

The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Workneh Gebeyehu, received in his office, Today, Monday, Sudan’s Special Envoy for the Sustainable Solutions Initiative and the Alternate Chairman of the National Mechanism to Support IGAD, Gen. Isam Karrar, in the presence of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Ambassador Mohamed Abdi Affey.
The meeting discussed reviving the political process of the Durable Solutions Initiative for Sudan and South Sudan and agreement on a roadmap for the initiative process.
The meeting also reviewed setting a schedule for visits to promote the initiative in the countries of the region in addition to the countries hosting refugees from Sudan and South Sudan.
Sudan and South Sudan have politically endorsed their national strategies for durable solutions.
The Inter-Governmental Authority for Development (IGAD), on its part, developed the regional durable solutions strategy, with the involvement of all countries of the region, in preparation for its endorsement by the governments of the member -states.
