South Darfur Governor pledges support to Standards Authority

Mr. Hamid Tijani Hannoun, Wali of South Darfur State Governor commended the important role of standards and metrology in protecting consumers and the national economy.

While describing addressing the opening session of a maiden meeting of the board of Sudanese Organization for Standardization and Metrology on performance for the current year, held in the state from 17-20 February, under the theme of “mastering the quality of excellence”, Governor Hannoun described the authority as immunity to the entire human life, labeling specification as the basis for the conformity of goods, services and products to quality and measurement standards.

He called for intensifying awareness campaigns, inspection and periodic control, working on the application of metrology, canceling the pound from commercial transactions, and the importance of spreading the culture of standards and consumer protection through schools.

The governor praised the authority’s efforts in media and awareness, especially promoting conformity to facilitate understanding of the language of specifications and standards.

He referred to the state’s efforts in establishing the land terminal to reinforce the role of standards in controlling imports and exports.

The South Darfur governor further pledged his unlimited support for the Authority’s regional branch and its efforts to cover border crossings and control violations.

He called for the need to complete modernization of laboratories, training the workforce to ensure quality control.

For his part, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Authority, Professor Kamal Al-Tayeb said the state was promised with tremendous development in all fields as an “important commercial center for Sudan”, pointing out the interest of the Board of Directors in improving the competence of workers and technicians with further training and qualification to achieve job security.

In addition, Ms. Rahba Saeed Abdullah, Director General of the Authority, expressed her happiness that the Authority meets with all its administrative and technical joints to hold its performance council.

” We must pay increased attention to the control processes of imports and work to develop exports with competitive advantage and contribute in global markets in accordance with the required standards and specifications., ” Abdullah stressed.

She Pledged that the Sudanese Organization for Standardization and Metrology would become the best support for aspirations and services of the organization in the field of standards, metrology, control, quality assurance and consumer protection, calling for Olympiad project in the state to educate the small consumer through schools to promote the culture of standardization.
