According to news articles, Minister of Finance affirmed his intention to lift subsidies from the cooking gas and some other commodities in the upcoming days.
The Minister said that the step comes within a package of economic reforms including increasing the investments to reach 40%, expanding the taxation umbrella and digitizing the economy.
The decision will lead to new hikes in the prices especially bread which is considered one of the major component of Sudanese food.
In this regard, the Citizen investigated Dr. Mohamed Kheir Hassan, a prominent economic expert who affirmed that the subsidies on cooking gas were already lifted some time ago, and it is apparent that the Ministry wants to hide a new increase in the taxation through the statement of lifting the subsidies.
He added that it is probable that the decline of cooking gas production, especially in the excavation areas due to security reasons, has encouraged the Ministry to pass such a decision
