Khartoum, Juba agree to develop mining cooperation

Sudan and South Sudan have agreed to reactivate joint agreements and memoranda of understanding signed by the two countries in the field of mining.

This came during a meeting held by the Sudanese delegation on the sidelines of the African Mining Indaba Conference in Cape Town, South Africa, headed by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Minerals, Dr Mohamed Saeed Zainal-Abidin, with his South Sudan’s counterpart, Dr. Cosmas Pitia Kujjo.

Dr Zainal-Abidin affirmed that the next stage would witness exchange of experiences and building of geological cadres through training in Sudan, adding that his ministry has distinguished relations with South Sudan, which contributes to the development of technical relations.

For his part, Dr. Cosmas Pitia Kujjo stressed the necessity to find ways to develop technical laboratories and modernize equipment operating in South Sudan, through the great experiences of the Sudan, hailing the strong relations linking the two countries.

Dr. Cosmas Pitia Kujjo agreed to attend the mining conference to be held next March in Khartoum.
