FMH, Khartoum State Cooperate to Combat Mosquitoes causing Dengue Fever

The Federal Ministry of Health (FMH) and Khartoum State announced joint work and tightening coordination to eliminate mosquitoes that transmit dengue fever.

The Federal Minister of Health Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, attended a meeting of Khartoum State Government, presided over by the acting governor of Khartoum State, Ahmed Osman Hamza and gave a briefing on the efforts being made to contain dengue fever.

Dr. Haitham called on the regular forces to participate in supporting the efforts being exerted by   Khartoum State and Ministry of Health and revealed meetings with the World Health Organization resulted in the approval of the organization to provide support to the areas affected by the disease early next March.

The Health Minister appreciated the efforts made by the government of Khartoum State and its readiness for intensive work to combat the disease, saying that the required control must be carried out by the system of (from house to house) and that homes inspection should daily for at least two weeks.

For his part, the governor of Khartoum State pledged to make additional efforts and provide capabilities to combat mosquitoes and activate the necessary work for the purpose.

The Director General of the Ministry of Health in Khartoum State, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Qaim, explained that the emergency departments at the Federal Ministry of Health and Health Ministry in Khartoum State hold a daily meeting to assess the situation due to survey field reports and cases of infection received by hospitals.

The Director of the Health Emergencies Department at the Federal Ministry of Health reported that the detected cases are still in the localities of Ombada and Karari, which number two hundred and three cases in the locality of Omdurman.

He noted that the efforts being made now are insufficient and called for provision of capabilities and budgets to intensify spraying and inspection work within the next ten days.
