Daffalla Al-Haj Ali meets Chairperson of AU Commission

The alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Daffalla Al-Haj Ali, met today, Sunday, in his office, the Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, at the outset of his official visit to Sudan, within the framework of the continuous consultations between Sudan and the African Union and following up on developments in the political process.

The Chairperson of the AU Commission is accompanied by H.E. Bankole Adeoye, the Commissioner for Peace and Security, Mohamed Al-Hassan Ould Labat, the Head of the Executive Office and Advisor to the Chairperson of the Commission, and Ambassador Mohamed Belaish, representative of the African Union in Sudan.

The alternate minister briefed the delegation on the latest developments in the political process, noting the inconsistency of sanctions and coercive measures with the spirit of the principle of African unity and solidarity advocated by the founding fathers of the African Union, and pointed to the important role played by the chairperson of the Commission and the Commissioner for Peace and Security in supporting the transition in Sudan instead of suspending its activity.

The alternate minister called for the need to reform the African Union system to become more in line with international mechanisms, especially in the United Nations Security Council, which allows countries to discuss their issues before the Council in a manner that helps to reach satisfactory solutions.

For his part, the Chairperson of the AU Commission expressed importance of Sudan’s return to the African family, in relation to the positive role that Sudan plays in the region, underscoring what was put forward during the meeting, explaining that he is in the process of meeting with the leadership of the state and the political forces during the visit, to find out about developments and assure broadening the base of participation.
