The Federal Ministry of Health revealed that there are 8,000 patients undergoing dialysis in Sudan, while the 8th conference of the Sudanese Society of Nephrology and Transplantation kicked off yesterday at the Al Salam Rotana Hotel.
The President of the Conference, Dr. Amin Banga, said in the opening session of the conference yesterday evening, that the conference discussed many issues, including pediatric nephritis, transplantation, chronic kidney disease and others, praising the Sudanese specialists abroad, companies and the National Center for Nephrology and Surgery, as well as the Egyptian Society of Nephrology and Transplantation, hoping that the conference will be a good chance for specialization.
Dr. Hisham Hassan, President of the Association, stressed the progress of Sudan in the treatment of kidney to pay attention to the allocation of budgets, which began with 20 million euros and increased last year to 80 million euros, while the number of patients increased from 3500 patients twenty years ago to 8 thousand patients currently in the presence of specialized cadres and added their migration abroad requires a serious stand to retain them to confront the increasing tide of patients .
The Secretary-General of the National Council for Medical Specialties, Dr. Ahmed Farah Shadol, described the convening of the conference as an important event despite the circumstances that the country is going through and the challenges ahead, praising the role of the association in its insistence and effort in free washing and the establishment of centers in the states, which contributed to reducing the burden on patients and families.
The representative of the National Center for Kidney Diseases and Surgery, Professor Abdul Rahman Abdel Wahab, stressed that despite the difficult conditions of Sudan, it provides free dialysis services as well as a package in agriculture despite the high cost, revealing that 383 transplants were performed last year funded by the government through the federal ministries of health and finance, pointing out that the cost of one operation is $ 5,000.
While the Acting Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, stressed the need for concerted efforts to address the decline in the health system, especially since most of the reasons for this are outside health, adding that we need to find out the reasons to treat them, pointing to the presence of 100 dialysis centers distributed over a number of states and 8 thousand patients undergoing washing.
