SCEFA and UNICEF: distribute School supplies to children and youth in alternative education centers

In signalling its support for education for all ( EFA ), the Government of Sudan (GOS) has recognised education as a right for all of its citizens and guarantees access to free basic education. Furthermore, the GOS considers the realisation of EFA in the country as completely commensurate with the achievement of socio-economic stability. As part of its efforts to bolster the education sector, the government has introduced the Interim Education Sector Strategic Plan (ESSP).

The Sudanese Coalition for Education for All, in partnership with UNICEF and under the supervision of the Ministry of Education, Khartoum State, distributed School supplies to children and youth in alternative education centers within the Educate a Child project in Ombada locality for 155 students, 129 students at the Alternative Education Center, School 43 in Dar es Salaam, 36 students, 87 students at School 42 Center, and 71 students at School 31 Center, as well as to students of Al-Huda Prison Center in Ombada, where they were handed school bags, notebooks, pens, engineering, plastics, colors , rulers and books of the first and second levels for the 7 to 9 years and the second stage from 10 to 14 years and a guide for teachers for all subjects and bags with aids for teachers and teaching supplies and starters , engineering tools , posters and other means and bags with sports equipment activities football, volleyball and handball Chess, ropes and other games work.

It is worth noting that Educate A Child (EAC), a global programme of the Education Above All Foundation, aims to trigger significant breakthroughs and a material difference in the lives of children who have no access to primary education. EAC has been helping millions of the hardest-to-reach out-of-school children worldwide realize their right to a quality education.

Though UNICEF’s collaboration with EAC began in Sudan in 2012, we first signed a framework agreement in October 2013, establishing UNICEF as one of EAC’s strategic partners to ensure that children are enrolled in quality primary education.

The partnership is driven at every level by the shared belief that all children have the right to a quality education, regardless of who they are, where they live or how much money their family has.

With context-specific and innovative approaches, EAC and UNICEF programmes aim to provide every out-of-school child with the chance to access quality primary education. The first joint programmes were rolled out in Chad, Comoros, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Somalia, South Sudan and Yemen. Currently, our partnership is active in Kenya, Nigeria, Sudan, Syria (through UNICEF USA) and Zanzibar in the United Republic of Tanzania ، according to UNICEF

EAC-UNICEF projects enhance the quality of education by constructing new classrooms with gender-sensitive WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) and disability facilities, designating safe spaces, providing teacher training, distributing school materials and strengthening alternative learning programmes.
