Ministry of Finance Estimates New Year’s Budget at about 5 Trillion pounds

The Minister of Finance, Jibril Ibrahim, estimated the amount allocated for the 2023 budget at about 5 trillion Sudanese pounds.
Ibrahim told (Sudan Tribune): “I do not remember the final amount allocated in the 2023 budget, but it is within the range of 5 trillion Sudanese pounds,” and indicated that the biggest challenge for the budget is to obtain sufficient revenues to cover the expected expenses.
He acknowledged the existence of a budget deficit that does not exceed 15%, with the possibility of covering it by resorting to borrowing from the Central Bank.
Jibril expressed optimism about collecting more revenues during the current year, as a result of computerization, controlling spending to the maximum extent, and expanding the tax umbrella without imposing new increases, in addition to what is expected from the revenues of ports and crossings.
Jibril stressed that they will continue to work for economic stability and reduce inflation rates. Increasing competition leads to lower prices.
