Ministry of Commerce organizes seminar on bilateral relations with regional and international organizations

Within the activities of the 40th Khartoum International Fair, the Ministry of Trade and Supply has organized a symposium on bilateral relations, regional and international organizations of a commercial format.

The Director of the Department of Bilateral Relations at the Ministry of Trade and Supply Magda Ahmed Al-Mahdi reviewed the development of the country’s international trade relations and its benefit from the stages of economic integration, as well as Sudan’s benefit from regional and international organizations in the development of various Sudanese exports such as oilseeds, sesame and peanuts.

Magda Al-Mahdi said that Sudan also benefited from the multilateral trading system of the least developed countries to support the establishment of the law of origin to promote its exports in global markets, in addition to benefiting from technical support in the field of training to build human capacities, strengthen institutions and support the sustainable development goals from the World Trade Organization.

She pointed out that Sudan benefited from the support of the regional integration at the COMESA countries, which is supported by the European Union, with an amount of 5 million euros in support of productive institutions, the Sudan University of Science and Technology with 300,000 euros for leather industries and Karari Training Center for Leather Industries, stressing the importance of bilateral and regional agreements in increasing the volume of intra-trade and openness of new markets.

She reviewed the challenges facing Sudan in regional, bilateral and international agreements, including lack of diversification of exports, shortage of foreign financing and instability of trade policies as well as weakness in foreign direct investment in sectors.

Participants in the symposium called on the private sector to benefit from the advantages of free trade to maximize Sudanese exports.
