Commission for Human Rights Issues Statement on Events in South Darfur

Khartoum – The National Commission for Human Rights pointed out that it is following up with regret and concern the violent incidents that took place in South Darfur State, as a result of a dispute between groups of herders and farmers, which led to deaths and injuries.

In a statement it issued on Saturday, the National Commission for Human Rights wished mercy for all the victims and expressed condolences to their families and wished a speedy recovery for the wounded persons.

The commission announced its welcome to the measures taken by the state’s security committee, and called on the authorities to intervene quickly in such cases, since the delay in intervention would endanger the lives of citizens.

The commission called for an independent and transparent investigation in the incident and that anyone who is proven to be involved in acts of violence should be brought to a fair court.

It appealed to all the concerned authorities to provide humanitarian aid to the victims, and called on the authorities to take the necessary measures and measures to prevent occurrence of such incidents.

The commission also called on the native administration and the local communities to exert more efforts to combat speech of hate and to support the values of peace and peaceful coexistence among all components of the state
